Manufactory - production in Hungary

Schuhmacher näht einen Schuh

lászló Budapest manufactures its welted and double-stitched shoes in a Hungarian factory, thus building on the traditions of highly developed imperial and royal shoemaking in terms of both production technology and style. We are proud to be able to offer quality that benefits from over a century of expertise.

With Anglo-Saxon and Mediterranean inspirations and leather from the best southern German and Italian tanneries, lászló Budapest creates pan-European modern shoe classics with an unmistakable signature.

The art of old machines

Needle and thread are also used for sewing in Hungary - and the welted shoes from lászló Budapest are assembled here on indestructible old Goodyear sewing machines, which are operated by skilled craftsmen with a great deal of knowledge and skill.

The production process itself comprises countless individual steps, which can be divided into two groups: the work on the shank and the ground work.

Work shoe shaft - stitching and pinching

After punching out and stitching together the shaft parts - which vary depending on the model - stiff caps are inserted between the upper leather and the lining at the toe and heel. The prepared uppers are then pulled over the last (tool that fills the shoe and gives it its shape) to which the insole was previously attached.

Now the uppers are fixed to the last with staples and glue - this process is called "tweaking". The lasted shoe is then passed on to the bottom assembly.

Base assembly - pricking and doubling up

The soles (insole, outsole/midsole) are attached to the last in the bottom assembly. First, the Goodyear lasting machine is used to sew the upper leather to the insole lip and the welt in the so-called lasting seam. This work requires a great deal of skill and muscle power on the part of the worker in order to safely guide the lined-up shoe during the stitching process.

The fleece balancing material and a stabilizing joint piece are then inserted into the cavity above the insole. The "pricked" shoe then moves on to the double machine. Here, the outsole (midsole) is placed and sewn on with the Goodyear welting machine - also known as "docking" or "doubling up". The bottom construction work on the shoe is now complete. Only the finish is still missing.

Finishing line

The sole and cut edge of the assembled shoe are sanded, stained to match the color and then polished to make them dirt- and water-repellent. The shoe is now finished. It can be passed on to the final inspection - which it normally passes. If there is nothing to complain about, it is sent on to the shipping department - first to Germany, then on to the point of sale and finally to the feet of its new owner. Nothing stands in the way of a happy ending.
